PLENUM CHAMBER КСД

A plenum chamber КСД or an adapter (plenum) is used in ventilation and air conditioning systems in residential and public buildings, and designed to connect air diffusers (ventilation grilles or diffusers) to the air duct system and provide a uniform distribution of air flow by the section of air diffuser.

The uniform distribution of the air flow occurs due to a decrease in the speed of the dynamic air flow inside plenum chamber and an increase in the static pressure of the air masses for the entire area of ​ the air diffuser.

At the entrance to the plenum chamber, the air velocity decreases sharply, fluctuating-strength vortex is formed, which gradually disintegrate as the dynamic pressure decreases to a minimum, and the static pressure, on the contrary, is restored to a value approximately equal to the total pressure and the air flow stabilizes.

Plenum chamber is a metal box made of galvanized steel, which is connected to the main air duct or its branches by round cross-section branch pipe(s) of standard dimensions. In order to significantly reduce the length of the vortex forming zone, additional leveling devices (baffles, splitter damper in the form of perforated sheets) can be installed inside the chamber. Static pressure chambers can also be covered from the inside with a layer of heat-insulating and sound-absorbing material, such a coating enhances the effect of the chamber reducing the noise coming through the network to the air diffuser by an additionally 6-8 dB (mainly at high frequencies), and also reduces the loss of cold (heat) of intake air and prevents condensate formation on the surface at the air temperature below the dew point.

Installation of plenum chamber to building structures is carried out using metal ropes or threaded rods through mounting loops mounted on the chamber. False ceiling is installed after the chambers are installed. Linear slot grids with static pressure chambers are a dismountable structure in which the grids are attached to the chambers with self-tapping screws.
